@purplefetus3 Thank you for your suggestions! We are currently developing a private email service and exploring other ways in which we can enhance our offerings! We will make a point to keep Startpage users posted. Cheers!
@bigpappageorgio Sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing slower service. Would you mind sending us an email (katie [at] startpage [dot] com) detailing exactly what you’ve encountered so we can most effectively address the issue(s)? Thank you!
@StartpageSearch For the time being, can I maintain my privacy for email by:
1. searching yahoomail from startpage
2. bookmark the search results
3. open the bookmark everytime I wanna access email
4. then open the proxy link for yahoomail (from the bookmarked startpage results)
5. then login as usual and open emails ?
Would this essentially allow me to access email w/o yahoo knowing my ip address? Thanks for all your responses.
@purplefetus3 The short answer is no, that won’t work. For security reasons, the Startpage proxy service does not allow users to enter data into forms, so you would not be able to enter your login and password information into Yahoo to access your account. This security measure is designed to prevent people from using the anonymity of the Startpage proxy to commit fraud and theft. (contd…)
@purplefetus3 (contd…) If people could log into password-protected bank accounts anonymously, for example, they could out your account and leave no trace. We realize the majority of people seeking anonymity on the Internet are upstanding and ethical, and apologize for any inconvenience this policy causes.
@16shells Great question! Short answer is that Startpage deletes both the IP address and the User ID cookie. Startpage does not record IP addresses or use Unique ID cookies. Bascially, there is nothing for any government to see…even if demanded! Cheers!
@zbridgjpxupzm Yes. Startpage’s search and proxy services are completely free. Like many other websites and Internet services, Startpage generates its income from advertising. When you perform an Startpage search, you may see up to three sponsored search results at the top of the results page and up to two at the bottom. (contd…)
@zbridgjpxupzm (contd…) These ads are indicated by a contrasting background color. Clicking a sponsored link will take you off of the Startpage website to an advertiser’s website. (contd…)
@zbridgjpxupzm (contd…)Unlike other search engines and websites that run sponsored ads, Startpage does NOT share any privacy-sensitive user data (such as IP address or cookie information) with the provider of these ads. Cheers!
This looks like some kind of future corporate video hehe, yet Startpage is one of the only search engines actually trying to PROTECT our privacy…Keep up the good work guys/gals!

@StartpageSearch Wow! that’s scary, I didn’t think of that. So privacy can also be used for evil purposes. that’s really too bad
I guess you just have to find the right balance of privacy. You can never have complete total privacy.
Cool !!
But what if the government demands to see startpages,com info?
@matrix0156 Thanks!

I’d like to believe this is a good thing, but exactly what’s in it for StartPage to provide free search engine, with SSL, and no ads?
@purplefetus3
it doesn’t work that way. you can’t hide from Yahoo while you are using their email service.
@zbridgjpxupzm Exactly.

Very Good… I like it, yet improve by 60% if you get Mcafee website malicious red alert warning.
I entered a known EVIL website ‘Danger! ‘ AntiMalwarebytes’ Danger..do not enter or you will be sorry!..
No warning in StartPage..
There could be and StartPage will go from Good to EXCELLENT!! TG
@DataRelater
And after that, Obama should take over the newspapers!
(after he’s done with auto manufacturers, banks, oil, energy usage, and Afghanistan)
